ABOUT

The Lignite Energy Council established the Lignite Energy Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit, to raise funds to support education and scholarship programs for students and teachers in the Upper Midwest who are served by coal-based electricity.

The LEC Foundation provides funds for educational programs and activities which educate about the coal industry, processes, and economic impact; promote industry-related career opportunities; and aim to facilitate opportunities to actively engage students with the industry.

As the need for well-trained students interested in the energy industry continues to grow, the Foundation will play a critical role to getting students into a wide spectrum of educational programs.  If you’re interested in supporting the Foundation, here’s a couple very easy ways to get involved:

Jason Bohrer
Lignite Energy Council

Jason Bohrer’s background as an attorney, a communications director for the Idaho Republican Party and as chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador (R-Idaho) provide a diverse skill set in his role as president and chief executive officer of the Lignite Energy Council. He is a graduate of North Dakota State University and earned his law degree from George Mason University. Prior to joining the Lignite Energy Council in 2013, Bohrer worked nine years in Washington, D.C.

Jonathan Fortner
Lignite Energy Council

Jonathan Fortner is the director of government relations for the Lignite Energy Council. Prior to joining the LEC, Fortner worked as a research consultant for the Minnesota House of Representatives and as a lobbyist for the Faegre Baker Daniels law firm in Minnesota.

Kay LaCoe
Lignite Energy Council

Kay LaCoe is the Director of Membership Marketing with the Lignite Energy Council. She is a graduate of the University of Mary with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Communications. Kay's background includes writing, website development, graphic design, integrated marketing and social media management.
